As impossible as it may sound, the café was actually not named after the infamous YouTube video. The truth is, there were many events that led us to name the cafe, the Honey Badger Cafe.
The awkward space The space is the strangest we've ever seen. Super high ceilings, narrow walls covered in '80s stucco, and support beams that run down the middle of the space.
The fires During remodeling, our negligent contractors almost burned the entire building down -- twice. Incredibly, we were saved by old and well-constructed hardwood floors.
The politics The space belongs in a carefully curated business district of Alhambra called the 'redevelopment zone'. There were many challenges to creating the right fit for the city.
With so many unfortunate variables, it would have been easy to simply give up. Except the owner is kind of dumb. He insisted on pushing through the bullshit and the negativity to create something meaningful.
So when it came time to name the café, we searched for a metaphor for 'an underdog', 'a ferocious fighter', and 'an ugly son-of-a-bitch'. And so it was named, the Honey Badger. You're welcome.
Not really. We're pretty laid back about most things.
Food and Drink from Other Places It's cool as long as we don't sell it, and you don't make a scene. Like, "OMG this IN-n-OUT burger is so fucking good". We didn't make that up. That actually happened.
Talking Loudly / Having a Great Time Totally cool. Our staff members may offer free earplugs to other partrons who might want to study. Don't be offended by that.
Hogging the Wireless Internet If you abuse our free WIFI, we reserve the right to identify you, take a photo of you, and ban you from the café. By abuse we mean downloading large files for extended periods of time.
You can park at Alhambra Place, at the movie theatre, in the lot behind Pho 79, at the public lot behind Starbucks, or behind 41 N Garfield on Sundays.
Please do not park in the valet lot. We really do not appreciate them, and would like to see them fuck off.
